Staying Positive in a season of overwhelm

Hey there! I am assuming that since you clicked on this that you are in some way living a life of overwhelm. So how the heck to stop the cycle of what feels like insanity? I have some practical, simple ways to declutter your mind/spirit so you can stay positive.

Real quick though I want you to know that I am currently fighting depression and anxiety. So I know firsthand that these ideas really work. I pray that they serve you.

What’s feeding your brain?

There are two parts to this, first what are you filling your mind with? This is HUGE. Our subconscious mind is beyond powerful. So, what are you feeding your mind with? Unrealistic images on instagram, numbing out to Netflix, angry music, toxic friendships, negative self talk? All of these outside forces really can impact your brain. Which then further leads to negative thoughts and attitude.

Secondly you have to be proactive which I find easier to do. I can spend focused time during my day to make sure I am giving my brain some positivity to snack on! I spend time praying and meditating at least two times a day. It quiets my soul and I love it! Reading a chapter of a self help book gives me power to take on the day! And lastly listening to positive pump up music really keeps me going. (Let’s be clear I still jam out to some rap music but it isn’t all that I am listening to!)

Just do a stupid workout

Like seriously, I am still rocking a post baby bod 18 months after having said baby and working out isn’t naturally my favorite. But it makes a HUGE difference in my attitude. Even when I just go for a quick 10 minute walk around the block I find that my brain functions way better. I can almost feel the brain fog leave my head as I walk, or do some pushups. Just challenge your body.

H20, yo!

I would bet money that most of us are dehydrated, like almost all the time. Especially when starting our mornings. Think about it, what do you drink when you first get up? Coffee. And if you are human who can function without some solid caffeine in the morning… well then props to you! But I am just not there yet. Well back on track. Coffee dehydrates you. So you’ve already spent hopefully 8 hours without water and then wake up to just further dehydrate yourself.

I have started to drink a huge glass of water first thing in the morning and I feel so much better! Less headaches and my body just feels better. Since drinking my giant glass of water I actually don’t need coffee until about 11am! SCORE! I have also been more conscious that when I get a headache that I probably just need a nice glass of water.

It’s silly but goal posters!

I love a good goal poster. I get out my markers, large construction paper and get to work. Our brains automatically pull from memories so when you put goals on paper they can start to comprehend them as a completed memory. Meaning our brains can see our goals and dreams way better. It takes the invisible ideas and makes them visible.

We do a family goal poster every year. I have a workout goal poster in my bedroom. And every month I have a goal poster for my business. I need to visualize what I am going to complete.

Stop being mean to yourself

Would you ever talk to a friend like you talk to yourself? NOPE. They would immediately no longer be a friend. So why do you talk to yourself like that? Just know that I am preaching to myself. The things that fly around our heads can truly be terrible. I have started to be more conscious of the bad ideas going on in my head. When I notice how terribly I am speaking to myself I shut it down and speak truth and love to myself!

Lastly, get some good people in your corner

It can be hard to find your people, but when you find them you’ll know! They are the type of people that you don’t have worry will start talking about you once you leave the room. They cheer you on when are you down. They remind you of WHO you are!

And maybe you have to remove some individuals who are not in your corner. It’s hard to be positive when negative people are breathing life into you.

As always, please take care of yourself and know that I am forever in your corner!

Much love, Brandi
